Question

Question Posted 02/14/15:
Hi ADNI MRI Core,
I am trying to analyze resting state fMRI data. I have the following questions from my co-investigator / researcher on my team.
Are the fMRI scans in the ADNI database preprocessed? Are basic preprocessing steps like distortion correction, motion correction, and slice timing correction completed on the data?
Furthermore (in spatial normalization/coregistration), how does one access the equivalent structural image (T1/T2) for each functional fMRI scan? We couldn't find specific information on this topic in the MRI preprocessing page.
Thank You.

Thank you for your question to the ADNI MRI Core.

The fMRI data available on LONI are as they came off the scanner. There is incredible variability in RS fMRI processing methods so we felt it unlikely that any particular preprocessing would be widely used. Philips may or may not do some prospective motion correction in the RSfMRI acquisition itself. The choice of T1/T2 is likely by acquisition date , though in the event of QC failure it it is often not unreasonable to choose a T1 and T2 from an adjacent time. The choice of which T1 to pair with is up to you, there are both accelerated and unaccelerated MP-RAGE acquisitions. The likely slice ordering is provided in the RS fMRI deliverable report which is uploaded quarterly. There is no multi-band acquisition in ADNI-2 so one need not manage multiple contemporaneous slices.
