Proposed Analysis: We propose to invent a set of new approaches for appropriate mathematical representation and statistical modeling of complex data objects in Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative studies. The primary goal of the research is to test whether different modalities of imaging data, other biological markers, and clinical and neuropsychological assessment can be combined to measure the progression of mild cognitive impairment and early Alzheimer’s Disease. New data analytic tools and algorithms will be developed to extract useful information from different modalities of imaging data to gain better understanding of the brain in Alzheimer’s Disease.

Proposed Analysis: We are interested in testing how the shapes of the hippocampus (represented as 2D surface data) are different for AD, MCI and normal subjects using our newly proposed statistical method, i.e. identifying subregions of hippocampi that are strong biomarkers for AD.
