Proposed Analysis: | Availability of vast amounts of digital data and computing power has spawned great advances in Machine Learning in the last few years. Machine Learning (ML) and artificial intelligence methods are being employed to solve traditional challenges in the fields of biology and medicine. Powerful neural networks can be built and trained to automate prediction and diagnosis of diseases. We plan to use the data available at ADNI to employ the advances in ML and conduct research on Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Recent research is indicating that chronic lung disease has an association with cognitive dysfunction, dementia and brain pathology. Smoking has been shown to be associated with a reduction in volume and density of frontal grey matter and pre-clinical brain changes and cerebral atrophy. We would like to employ novel ML methods on the data to study associations such as between Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and AD. |

Proposed Analysis: | Please Note: Application is requiring the degree field. To allow completion of the form, B.A. has been selected. However, this investigator is an intern with us who has yet to complete a degree. Planning to build machine learning models to be trained with ADNI data so they can be used in early prediction and diagnosis of AD. Also study common factors and association of COPD and AD. Plan to present research at science fairs and publish |
