Proposed Analysis: In a previous study from our group (https://doi.org/10.1007/s00415-017-8623-8), we found that, among several measures of episodic memory, the short story test had the best predictive validity in discriminating a-MCI patients who developed AD within the 3-year follow-up. We also found that the mean time to conversion was significantly reduced for the converter a-MCI patients who had more marked memory loss in the delayed recall of this memory task compared to converter MCIs who did not. We hypothesised that the amount of forgetting on the short story test may be a specific index of hippocampal memory deficit and, therefore, related to the severity of medial temporal lobe atrophy. The aim of this research proposal is to test this hypothesis. Specifically, we propose to analyse the relationship between the amount of forgetting on the logical memory test (which is similar to the short story test), the level of atrophy in the medial temporal lobe structures and the time of conversion in a cohort of patients diagnosed with a-MCI who developed AD during follow-up evaluations.
