Ongoing Investigations

ADNI data is made available to researchers around the world. As such, there are many active research projects accessing and applying the shared ADNI data. To further encourage Alzheimer’s disease research collaboration, and to help prevent duplicate efforts, the list below shows the specific research focus of the active ADNI investigations. This information is requested annually as a requirement for data access.

Proposed Analysis: We propose to study the differential brain functional network topology patterns in MCI subtypes derived from task-free functional MRI data in the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) database. We hypothesize that the addition of brain functional network topology features will increase the accuracy of classifying MCI converters versus MCI non-converters as compared to merely using structural MRI, Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF), and Positron Emission Topography (PET) data. Specifically, possible abnormalities in graph theoretical metrics namely centrality, shortest path to hubs, and clustering coefficient can be elucidated and hopefully able to shed some light into the pathophysiology behind certain disease-specific symptoms.
