Ongoing Investigations

ADNI data is made available to researchers around the world. As such, there are many active research projects accessing and applying the shared ADNI data. To further encourage Alzheimer’s disease research collaboration, and to help prevent duplicate efforts, the list below shows the specific research focus of the active ADNI investigations. This information is requested annually as a requirement for data access.

Principal Investigator
Principal Investigator's Name: Paul Adlard
Institution: The Florey Institute for Neuroscience and Mental Health
Department: Neurodegeneration
Proposed Analysis: A number of investigations centred around the role of metals, zinc in particular, in both normal and pathological cognitive decline will be undertaken. These will include SNP analysis of targets such as the zinc transporter 3 gene, and how these may predict the onset of cognitive decline and/or structural alterations in the brain that are indicative of the onset or progression of functional decline. We will also study this with the perspective of the downstream role of zinc at the synapse, and how it may have specific interactions with targets such as BDNF, NMDA etc.
Additional Investigators
Investigator's Name: Victoria Perreau
Proposed Analysis: Dr Perreau is the head of the bioinformatics core facility at The Florey and has been assisting with all analyses.
