PET Acquisition

There have been some modifications to the types of scans acquired throughout the ADNI study. All scans remain available for download by qualified users and are accessible via the Image and Data Archive.  The types of scans collected from each phase of the study are listed below. To view a full list of study data, review the data inventory page.

  • FDG-PET: 185 MBq (5 mCi), dynamic 3D scan of six 5-min frames 30-60 min post injection
  • PIB-PET: Performed on a small pilot sample: 555MBq (15 mCi), dynamic 3D scan of four 5 min frames from 50-70 min post injection.
  • FDG-PET: 185 MBq (5 mCi), dynamic 3D scan of six 5-min frames 30-60 min post injection
  • Florbetapir: 370 MBq (10 mCi), dynamic 3D scan of four 5 min frames 50-70 min post injection
  • Florbetapir (Amyvid): 370 MBq (10.0 mCi) ± 10%, 20 min (4X5min frames) acquisition at 50-70 min post-injection
  • Florbetaben (Neuraceq): 300 MBq (8.1 mCi) ± 10%, 20 min (4X5min frames) acquisition at 90-110 min post-injection
  • AV-1451: 370 MBq (10.0 mCi) ± 10%, 30 min (6X5min frames) acquisition at 75-105 min post-injection
  • FDG: 185 MBq (5.0 mCi) ± 10%, 30 min (6X5min frames) acquisition at 30-60 min post-injection

Quality Control
  • Every Florbetapir and FDG PET scan is reviewed for protocol compliance by the ADNI PET QC team
  • If a correctable problem is identified, the PET QC team contacts the PET technologist directly
  • If a problem with the scan is identified and it is not fixable, the PET QC team provides the PET technologist with protocol guidance to apply to future PET scans

Scans that fail the PET QC and are deemed unusable due to participant motion or non-compliance are documented with the reason as identified by the participant and the technician on the PET Scan Information Form.
