Proposed Analysis: I would like to combine patient structural neuroimaging and metabolic data to use as features in a model predicting degrees of cognitive impairment. In particular, I would like to explore whether structural changes in hippocampal size, such as volume reduction, can be incorporated into a model with variables relating to metabolic dysfunction including homeostatic assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), body-mass-index, waist-to-height ratio, lipid profile, and CRP levels, blood pressure, to predict cognitive dysfunction in relation to Alzheimer's disease. Hippocampal atrophy has been associated with cognitive decline. HOMA-IR has been associated with total hippocampal volume, cognitive decline, and Alzheimer's disease. In the process, I would like to work on developing machine learning models for the segmentation of the hippocampus and identification of hippocampal volume reduction.
