The Extended Resting State fMRI is the same sequence as before but instead of a 7 minute scan, the number of measurements were increased from 160 to 200 to allow for a 10 min fMRI scan. From the current literature a 10 min scan show much better functional connectivity than shorter scans. The ADNI MRI core is suggesting that groups who have studied the 7 min sequence can still do so by ignoring the additional measurements.
