Question

Question Posted 08/24/24:
My name is Samuel Pinto, and I am an International High Scholol student conducting research for my Biology Internal Assessment. I am conducting a study entitled “Comparison of the prevalence of the ε4 allele of the APOE gene and its association with Alzheimer's disease in Mexican versus U.S.-born adults over 65 years of age, using data from the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI).”

The aim of my research is to compare the prevalence of the ε4 allele of the APOE gene and its association with Alzheimer's disease in two specific populations: 65-year-old older adults of Mexican origin and Caucasian Americans. To perform a robust statistical analysis, I would need a subset of data that includes about 300 participants, preferably 150 of Mexican origin and 150 Americans.

I would be very grateful if you could provide me with access to relevant data, specifically those that include the ethnicity of the participants, their genetic profile related to the ε4 allele of the APOE gene, and clinical data associated with Alzheimer's disease.

I look forward to your response and am available to provide any additional information needed for this request.

Thank you very much for your attention and support.

Hi Samuel, ADNI may not have available data for your study question at this time, but there is another study that may be just right for the project you would like to do. Please look into the Health & Aging Brain Study: Health Disparities (HABS-HD) because this is a study of brain aging in Hispanic Americans, and many are of Mexican origin. It may be just right for the topic you would like to study. https://www.gaaindata.org/partner/HABS. You can contact HABS-HD investigators through their website and ask about data access.
