Question

Question Posted 05/29/25:
Dear ADNI team,
I am currently working with the Diagnosis Summary file from the ADNI database and have a question regarding the DIAGNOSIS column coding.

Could you please confirm whether the values in the DIAGNOSIS column correspond to the following diagnostic categories:

1 = CN (Cognitively Normal)
2 = MCI (Mild Cognitive Impairment)
3 = AD (Alzheimer\'s Disease)
I want to ensure I am interpreting the diagnostic codes correctly for my analysis. If this coding scheme is not accurate, could you please provide the correct mapping for the DIAGNOSIS column values?

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Yep, that is accurate!

As a technical note: previous phases of the study (ADNIGO and ADNI2 specifically) also included finer-grained diagnostic distinctions of subjective memory concern (SMC), and early/late MCI (eMCI and lMCI) - these are folded into the CN and MCI cohorts, respectively, since they do not apply uniformly across all phases and the diagnostic criteria align with the CN and MCI arms otherwise. If these distinctions are relevant to your study, the ADNIGO and ADNI2 procedures manuals should have relevant information.
