1) Are the response options listed for the PTRACCAT variable the options that were presented to participants in the demographics form for ADNI 4 (i.e., American Indian or Alaskan Native; Asian; Black or African American; White; Unknown; Native Hawaiian; Other Pacific Islander) or is this an ADNI-derived variable?
2) If PTRACCAT is an ADNI-derived variable, are more detailed racial identities available (e.g., "Korean" instead of Asian, or a list of all racial options selected for those in the More than One Race category) ?
3) In the data dictionary, for variable PTRACCAT, it appears that in ADNI3 there was an option of 6= More than One Race, but in ADNI4, an option 6 is not listed.
a) How are racial identities from Multiracial participants collected in ADNI4 (e.g., a More than One Race checkbox, selecting multiple options, etc.)?
b) How are data from participants with multiple racial identities listed in the dataset going forward in ADNI4 (e.g., are they recoded into a More than One Race option)?

(1) Yes those are the options as they are presented to participants.
(2) Yes, in some cases - for example, the PTASIAN field records one or more countries of origin for participants who identify as Asian. The data dictionary should contain a full list of such fields (3 - both a and b) In ADNI4, participants have the option to select multiple racial categories rather than having a single 'More than one race' option. In such cases, the PTRACCAT field contains multiple numbers separated by a bar (as in | ). This can be collapsed back into the historical coding scheme by grepping for the separator and setting all such entries to 6, if so inclined. Please feel free to reply with any followup questions, or if any of the preceding explanation is unclear.

Thank you! For ADNI4, how are participants asked about race (e.g., How would you describe your race?, Of the following, which best describes your race?, Please select which race or races best match your identity?, etc.)

For ADNI4 there is nothing in the procedures manual or the study protocols that specifically dictates how the question is phrased during the participant interview. Since the form is completed by the clinician, not the participant, the specific phrasing of the question posed to the participant may vary. On the worksheet that the clinician fills out, the item is phrased as 'Please check all boxes that participant self-identifies with', followed by a list of the categories.
