Scot, thank you for your question to the ADNI MRI Core.
Specifically for MRI, all the raw DICOM files that might contain PHI are stripped and replaced with the ADNI Subject ID number during the upload process which is done locally on the users machine. This helps ensure that LONI is not receiving PHI and thus no other users of the MRI data would be either.
