Response posted 08/21/15 by Robert Koeppe:
This in entirely to help prevent the loss of a PET scan due to subject motion. In the processing steps, the individual 5 min frames are realigned to one another. In addition, if one or more frames has severe motion or severe attenuation correction artifacts due to mis-registration with the CT or transmission scan, these "bad" frames can be failed, while the rest of the frames can be passed and used for analysis.
