I am downloading a large number of files at a relatively slow speed -- the process will take weeks. What happens if I need to terminate the download? Does it continue from where it has stopped? OR will it need to do the whole download again?

Since the IDA allows you to select which exact images to download, next time just make sure to deselect the images that you already have. Also, try downloading in smaller batches to avoid this in the future.
