Proposed Analysis: | Neurodegeneration in cholinergic basal forebrain has been described as a feature of AD. Nuclei of cholinergic basal forebrain have widespread projections to hippocampus, amygdala, and neocortex. We hypothesize that loss of grey matter density (GMD) in cholinergic basal forebrain will be predictive of subsequent cognitive impairment in MCI and AD. Furthermore, development of cognitive impairment will be mediated by loss of neocortical GMD. Measurements of GMD in all structures will be obtained with voxel based morphometry of brain MRI MPRAGE scans. |
