| Proposed Analysis: | In my research project I want to study the effect of the antidiabetic drug metformin in experimental models of Alzheimer’s Disease (AD), like cell cultures and transgenic mice. I want to complement the basic and experimental data obtained in our models with data obtained from human patients in order to obtain a better understanding of the clinical relevance of this research project. By obtaining access to the ADNI database, I want to analyze biomarker outcomes from AD patients that have already received treatment with metformin for pre-existing diabetes compared with patients that have received treatment with other antidiabetic drugs, and patients with no diabetes. As this approach is limited to be considered as clinical investigation, I think that this information could help to understand the relevance of our basic and experimental research, in order to justify our objective of obtaining a deeper understanding of the mechanistic effects of metformin in neural cells using experimental models of AD. The experimental data obtained from these models could be relevant to guide clinical research in the future. |
