Proposed Analysis: | I am a Graduate Research Assistant in the Magnetics Research Group under Dr. David Jiles. Our group's research focuses on developing novel coil designs for Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). Our group has developed a method to create head models from MRI scans. The head models are used during the design phase of new coils, as well as characterizing the performance of new coils with coils currently being used in TMS therapy. We use finite element modeling software to simulate the induced electric field within the brain from the coil's magnetic field. Our current research is investigating how the Quadruple Butterfly Coil (patent pending) performs on different types of head models. We want to investigate how non-healthy brains respond to our different coil designs. Additionally, having a wider range of head models will allow our group to develop coils that are "patient specific" in order to target TMS therapy to specific indications or subject groups. |
