Proposed Analysis: It is of high importance to diagnose Alzheimer’s disease (AD) at an earlier stage in order to have better prognosis of the disease. Neuroimaging and medical image analysis are among the most promising areas of research focused on early detection of AD. Objective: This study aims to use volume measurements in conjunction with quantitative multi-scale texture analysis on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) images in order to investigate if texture could be a possible diagnostic marker of AD. A Computer Aided Diagnosis (CAD) tool base on texture analysis will be developed to be used as a possible diagnostic tool for the early assessment and accurate prognosis of the disease. Methodology: Multi-scale texture analysis will be mainly run on patients with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and estimate if texture analysis could have a possible predictive value. For comparison, the analysis will also include MRI images of healthy individuals, AD patients and elderly controls. These data will be collected by two databases. Expected results - Impact: It is expected that the results of this research work will provide physicians with quantitative medical imaging biomarkers regarding the identification of patients in the very early stages of AD and contribute to the aggressiveness. As a result, treatment can be tailored more accurately.
