Proposed Analysis: | Diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease with pseudo-3D imaging data. Diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) can be performed with brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a pseudo-3D imaging modality. Machine learning methods for this task are mainly based on convolutional neural networks with 3D kernels. However, such methods are computationally expensive. Recently, alternative approaches have been introduced in the research paper "Alzheimer’s Disease Classification Using 2D Convolutional Neural Networks" by Xin Xing et al.. I will investigate one of these approaches, based on temporal pooling. Temporal pooling is used for converting 3D MRIs to 2D images by replacing the values on the temporal dimension (or the slice dimension) with a single value. I would want to conduct experiments using the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) dataset. |
