Proposed Analysis: | Early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease plays a pivotal role in patient care and clinical trials. I want to developed a new approach based on 3D deep convolutional neural networks to accurately differentiate mild Alzheimer’s disease dementia from mild cognitive impairment and cognitively normal individuals using structural MRIs. I will validate the model on an internal held-out cohort from The Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI). I want to evaluate whether the deep-learning model is more accurate and significantly faster than the volume/thickness model. The proposed model will likely be used to forecast progression e.g., whether the subjects with mild cognitive impairment were misclassified or not as having mild Alzheimer’s disease dementia by the model. I also want to analyze the features learned from the proposed model to show that they rely on which regions associated with Alzheimer's disease. The ultimate goal of designing a deep learning model is to achieve accurate early detection of Alzheimer's disease. |
