Proposed Analysis: | Individuals with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) commonly exhibit a variety of behavioral and emotional symptoms during the course of the disease, such as depression, anxiety, agitation and even psychosis. Depressive symptoms are particularly common, occurring in approximately 40% of AD patients, raising several issues regarding the diagnostic validity, clinical manifestation, and pathological relationship between depression and AD. The mechanisms that underlie comorbidities between depression and AD are still unknown. Here, I will establish a prediction model based on deep learning that identifies potential risk factors for depressive symptoms in AD patients. Utilizing multimodal neuroimaging data acquired from a multi-site study (Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative), my project will attempt to identify the biological mechanisms of depressive symptoms in AD progression, focusing specifically on amyloid burden and on markers of brain atrophy. |
