Proposed Analysis: The purpose of the proposed research is to investigate the mechanisms by which mitochondrial abnormalities initiate the production of oxidative stress, causing the development of Alzheimer’s disease. Prior research indicates the possibility that if mitochondrial abnormalities such as Abet and tau proteins are present in the brain, then oxidative stress will eventually produce and lead to disease onset (Yves, 2000). Online data sets relevant to tau proteins, AB proteins, neurofibrillary tangles, senile plaques, and oxidative stress levels will be utilized to evaluate the purpose of the study. If this study were to be carried out successfully, it will be a valuable contribution to Alzheimer’s disease research as scientists can be guided toward potential disease cures with mitochondrial abnormalities as the target. Additionally, scientists may be able to halt the production of such abnormalities before it develops within the brains of patients and therefore, stop irreversible brain damage. Since I am a High School research student, I will be utilizing Dr. George Perry’s support and guidance as my mentor during my research process.
