Proposed Analysis: | Late-life depressive symptoms are associated with an increased risk of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD). One large population study demonstrated that depressed elderly have a lower plasma amyloid-β 42 (Aβ42) compared with those without depression, and further argued that “amyloid-associated depression” is defined by presence of depression and a high plasma Aβ40:Aβ42 ratio. In contrast, the association of cerebral Aβ with depression has not been elucidated. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between cerebral Aβ deposition and depressive symptoms in normal aging, MCI and AD. Cognitive normal, MCI and AD individuals will be included. Subjects with past or current major depressive episode or cerebrovascular disease will be excluded. Volumetric 3T MRI, Pittsburgh Compound B - positron emission tomography and comprehensive clinical evaluation in the ADNI dataset will be used. Depressive symptoms will be evaluated using Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D). |
