Proposed Analysis: We aim to investigate the effect of engagement on rate of decline in those diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Specifically, we intend to further investigate the concept of cognitive reserve that indicates that individuals who have higher levels of reserve tend to experience greater rates of decline after clinical diagnosis than those with lower levels of reserve. We are interested in determining how different occupational characteristics and post-retirement engagement contribute to post-diagnostic rate of decline. We intend to also examine these variables' relationship with neurological changes to brain structure and levels of beta-amyloid and tau proteins. Further understanding of the relationship with cognitive reserve and Alzheimer's severity can influence interventions and treatment options utilized by these individuals.
