Principal Investigator
Principal Investigator's Name: Arvind Vepa
Institution: University of California, Los Angeles
Department: Computer Science
Country:
Proposed Analysis: I am a PhD Student in the Computer Science department at UCLA, supervised by Professor Scalzo. The focus of my research is integrating machine learning and automated reasoning for medical diagnosis. We are looking at the impact of standard and novel diagnostic tests and medical evidence (including but not limited clinical data, medical imaging, genetic tests, cognitive tests, and blood biomarkers) towards medical decision-making. We are interested in improving healthcare outcomes and reducing costs by improving on standard diagnostic procedures. The Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative is a longitudinal multicenter study designed to develop clinical, imaging, genetic, and biochemical biomarkers for the early detection and tracking of Alzheimer’s disease which directly correlates with our research goals. We hope to use our research to improve healthcare outcomes for Alzheimer’s disease.
Additional Investigators
Investigator's Name: Fabien Scalzo
Proposed Analysis: Professor Scalzo is an Assistant Professor in Computer Science and Neurology and Director of the AI in Imaging and Neuroscience Lab at UCLA. He will supervise Arvind Vepa’s PhD research in integrating machine learning and automated reasoning for diagnosis and detection of Alzheimer’s disease and progression. Professor Scalzo has extensive background in brain imaging and machine learning applications in healthcare and will provide invaluable expertise for analysis of the study data in the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative.
Investigator's Name: Charles De Guzman
Proposed Analysis: Charles De Guzman is a third year medical school student at Loma Linda University who is interested in exploring new algorithm development methods for medical diagnosis. He will be advising for this project.
