Proposed Analysis: | The molecular basis of AD has not been fully understood, however the contribution of genetic factors in the development and progression of the disease has been well established. The recent past has witnessed the identification of more than six hundred genes as probable AD genes from large number of genome-wide association studies (GWAS). Identification of biomarkers associated with AD holds significant promise for understanding genetics of the disease and improving clinical options. A biomarker can predict and diagnose disease, monitor disease progression and response to treatment thus enabling to distinguish the disease patients from normal ones and help in drug discovery. However the large amount of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) generated from GWAS studies poses daunting computational challenges and thus it is important to generate highly accurate predictive models from genome-wide data for improved clinical classification and disease prediction. |
