Proposed Analysis: Genetic study of neuropsychiatric symptoms in cognitively impaired individuals About 65% of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) experience some neuropsychiatric symptoms including apathy, depression, anxiety, delusions, hallucinations, sleep disturbances, and agitation. These neuropsychiatric symptoms are associated with greater caregiver burden and higher rate of institutionalization. Heritability of psychosis in AD was estimated to be 61%, but the genetic basis of neuropsychiatric symptoms in AD is not clear. We aim to evaluate the genetic contribution of neuropsychiatric symptoms in individuals with AD and mild cognitive impairment.
