Proposed Analysis: Metaepigenetics is a non-governmental organization that aims to raise awareness about epigenetics. We develop policies to support students and research projects in this and related fields. Currently the organization consists of a team of volunteers with excellent expertise in various fields including epigenetics, genetics, data science, mathematics, bioinformatics and software engineers. Currently the team is liaising with a young scientific team whose primary focus of research is Alzheimer's disease. The team is trying to create an algorithm to improve the diagnosis, forecast and management of this socially significant disease. To achieve this, we require both genetic and phenotypic data with a focus on methylation. The ADNI dataset is perfect for this purpose as it has both genotyped and sequenced data in addition to methylation, expression, imaging (MRI/PET scan) and further clinical phenotypic data. The objective of the study is to identify further methylation related CpG sites that combined with the imaging and cognitive results can be used to forecast the development of the disease in patients with Alzheimer's disease and plan the management of the treatment. To achieve this we will utilize novel statistical and mathematical machine learning methods and complement these with the internal epigenetic and genetic expertise that the team possesses. What we are trying to achieve together is extremely inspiring and it is the first large-scale project that will be implemented under our supervision. The company has a secure IT infrastructure and and IT directory. The data will be stored in a secure server and access to it will be provided to whitelisted IP addresses of the organization's members via ssh connection.
Additional Investigators
Investigator's Name: Zhana Kuncheva
Proposed Analysis: As a Statistical Geneticist, Dr Kuncheva will conduct the data management and machine learning analysis of the genetic and methylation dataset and help with the modelling of the longitudinal clinical phenotypes.
Investigator's Name: Ivan Tourtourikov
Proposed Analysis: As a Geneticist, Dr Tourtourikov will design the epigenetic analysis, interpret the findings from the machine learning analysis and help with the implementation and integration of the clinical data in follow-up analysis.
