Proposed Analysis: | The main objective of the proposed research work is to develop some computational methods to discover important genetic variants that increase the risk for some neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, schizophrenia, and Parkinson's disease. • In the proposed research work, the correspondence between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), and brain activity and structure measured by functional MRI (fMRI) and structural MRI (sMRI), respectively, will be investigated to understand how genetic variation influences the brain activity and structure. • The relation between basic and constrained multivariate analysis methods will be formulated analytically for integrative analysis of SNP, sMRI and fMRI. • The goals are both theoretical study and real life applications: by selecting those at genetic risk for early treatment, drug trials will be better powered to detect treatment effects. • Gene variants over-represented in patients will be studied, both at molecular level and in terms of their effects on brain function and structure, to achieve a more mechanistic understanding of the neurodegenerative diseases. |
