Proposed Analysis: | Aim: To investigate the effect of apathy measured with the NPI on functional change measured with Financial Capacity Short Form. H1: Higher apathy - irrespective of diagnosis - will be associated with greater decline on the FCI. We will test model assumptions before proceeding with statistical analyses. Generalized linear mixed models (GLMM) may potentially be used to examine the relationship between apathy and FCI over time after adjusting for potential baseline confounders (e.g., depression, age, education, clinical diagnosis). All models may include apathy main effect, time main effect, as well as apathy by time interaction to investigate how level of apathy affects rate of functional decline. We will empirically test the best model fit in terms of random parameters. Analyses will be initially conducted with high and low apathy scores then repeated with continuous raw scores to ensure findings were not biased as a result of dichotomization. |
