Proposed Analysis: | We propose to use Grad-CAM, a deep learning neural network, to understand how brain structures help predict chronological age of healthy individuals. Using this framework, we aim to extend the analysis to individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias by predicting their brain age using the same deep learning model. Any associated gap between the predicted brain age and chronological age would give us insight into age processes on an individual level, with interpretable decision making from Grad-CAM. This would serve as a useful feature for early detection of abnormal brain aging for screening of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. |
