Proposed Analysis: | Certain gene targets implicated downstream of estrogen signaling in the brain may be directly responsible for greater cognitive impairment and neuronal atrophy seen in female AD patients. My goal is to identify such AD risk genes by observing mutation profiles seen in male and female samples. The main objectives of the study are outlined below: 1. To understand the disparity in mutation profiles seen within males and females for normal versus disease. 2. To correlate age of onset with variants obtained in the first objective. 3. To identify mutations in the estrogen signalling pathway(s) in the brain that correlate with greater cognitive impairment and neurodegeneration in female AD patients. |
