Proposed Analysis: | Synaptic disruption precedes neuronal death and correlates with clinical features of Alzheimer's disease. The identification of fluid biomarkers of synaptic alteration is emerging as one of the potential goals for early and accurate diagnosis of the disease. The proposed objective of this study is to investigate whether CSF biomarkers of synaptic damage (Neurogranin, SNAP-25, GAP-43) are altered in Alzheimer's disease compared to healthy controls and whether they can predict conversion to dementia in patients with mild cognitive impairment. Correlation analyses between biomarker levels and other clinical, neuropsychological, and neuroimaging parameters could provide further clues about their role in the pathophysiology of Alzheimer's disease. |
