Proposed Analysis: My name is Thien Duy Nguyen. I am an incoming undergraduate researcher in the Molecular Neurotherapeutic Laboratory at Mayo Clinic Florida and would like to access data from the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative. I am studying the mechanisms behind Alzheimer's disease in Dr. Tsuneya Ikezu's research lab and would like to get a better understanding of the specific biomarkers and cognitive characteristics that are associated with AD pathology. One of the research questions that this data set will help me answer is whether or not neurofibrillary tangles are merely biomarkers or if they play a more significant role in AD pathology. Identifying specific biomarkers of AD will allow me to assist in the development of methods/techniques (i.e. extracellular vesicles) that can be used to target the exosome secretion pathway in order to halt the progression of tauopathy. Analyzing the information from this database will also help me understand the correlations between cognitive characteristics and AD progression. For example, I am interested in studying whether changes in the rate of neurogenesis correlate with neuroplasticity and in understanding how this relationship corresponds with specific cell types/ratios as well as cognitive characteristics exhibited by AD patients. Furthermore, I would like to investigate how the lipidation status of different apoE isoforms determines whether they facilitate or inhibit Ab aggregation in AD patients.
