Proposed Analysis: | There is a well-established relationship between brain integrity and cognition, and a more specific correlation between specific cognitive impairment and regional cortical atrophy in different pathologies such as Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases, multiple sclerosis and in normal elderly population. Previse studies has proposed different patterns of cortical atrophy that correlates with cognitive impairment including regions in the frontal, parietal temporal and occipital lobes. The correlation of symptoms that occur within Alzheimer’s dementia, aka the subjective decline or change in cognition, with brain atrophy is yet to be established. The measurement of everyday cognition (ECog-39) questionnaire used to measure domain-specific symptoms of Alzheimer’s dementia including memory, language, visuospatial, planning, organization, and divided attention. Our study aim is to evaluate the correlation of impairment in each of the domains represented in the ECog-39 and a cortical atrophy, using the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) database. Cortical thickness analysis will be done using FreeSurfer software. |
