Proposed Analysis: | While Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) is typically considered an amnestic, multi-domain disorder, at least 15% of individuals are considered atypical presentations. This still underestimates the heterogeneity within more common, “typical” presentations. Atypicality in AD could be defined along multiple dimensions, including spatial distribution and severity of tau burden and neurodegeneration. Atypical presentations are often, but not always, characterized by younger age of onset. We operationalize atypicality in AD as relative cortical to MTL neurodegeneration and propose to study the spectrum of neurodegenerative variance in AD by relating structural imaging and epigenetic measures of biological age. Ultimately, this research may provide insights into potential disease mechanisms and therapeutics for AD. |
