Proposed Analysis: | The ADNI data MRI images will be used to study the changes in the morphology of different brain regions (specifically hippocampus and corpus callosum) between different patient groups. This will be done using image analysis methods such as fractal analysis and gray-level co-occurrence matrix texture analysis methods, which can be used to detect subtle changes in image complexity, space-filling properties, and spatial relationship of pixels. Our laboratory has successfully applied these methods in the past to study the histological changes in hippocampal tissue samples in various neurological diseases, including Alzheimer's disease (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=zaletel+i&sort=date). We would now like to asses if these methods can be used to detect changes in brain morphology in AD and MCI patients and how these changes develop over time. |
