Proposed Analysis: Research question: The objective of this study is to develop a machine learning model for the detection of Alzheimer's disease using MRI images from the ADNI database. Data source: The MRI images will be obtained from the ADNI database, which contains MRI scans of patients with Alzheimer's disease and healthy controls. Participants: The participants in the ADNI study are adults aged 55 to 90 years who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or are healthy controls. The database includes approximately 1,000 participants with Alzheimer's disease and 1,000 healthy controls. Data handling: The MRI data will be accessed through the ADNI database and will be de-identified to protect the privacy and confidentiality of the participants. The data will be stored on a secure server and accessed only by authorized personnel. Any identifiable information will be removed before analysis. The data will be destroyed at the end of the study. Ethical considerations: Informed consent was obtained from all participants in the original ADNI study, and the use of the data for research purposes is allowed under the ADNI data sharing policy. This study will not involve any contact with the participants or any additional data collection. Data preprocessing: The MRI images will be preprocessed to remove noise and artifacts, normalize intensity, and register the images to a common coordinate system. This will be done using established software packages for MRI image analysis. We will ensure that the results of this study are disseminated in a responsible and ethical manner, and that the privacy and confidentiality of the participants in the ADNI database are protected. We will also acknowledge the contribution of the ADNI study to the research community in any publications resulting from this study.
