Proposed Analysis: | I aim to model the evolution of the shape and appearance of the brain across the lifespan and pathologies by pooling imaging data from multiple large-scale datasets. Specifically, individual images will be modeled as a mean shape (template) modified by a subject and pathology-specific appearance change and deformed using a subject and pathology-specific deformation, within a generative mixed-effect model. |

Proposed Analysis: | We will train a neural network to separate artifactual (e.g., motion, MR distortions) and anatomical changes. The neural network will be trained using synthetic examples and applied at test time on real data from the ADNI dataset. We hypothesize that irrelevant geometric changes will be factored out thereby, increasing the statistical power of downstream analyses. |
