Proposed Analysis: More and more evidence indicated that Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and ischemic stroke (IS)are linked to each other. Epidemiological evidence suggests that the risk of AD is significantly higher in IS patients than in the general population and vice versa. Second, the most recent studies have shown that some risk factors for IS, such as hypertension, diabetes and hyperlipidemia, can also increase AD. Third, neuropathological studies found lacunar infarction existed in autopsied brains of AD patients. Finally, neuroimmunoinflammation in the brain plays a key role in the progression of both diseases. Therefore, we hypothesized that AD and IS must be genetically linked to some extent, resulting in epidemiological, neuropathological, and other similarities between the two phenotypes. A Chinese population ischemic stroke cohort was established in our center. In this study, we aimed to explore the genetic associations between AD and IS at the levels of SNPS and gene.
