Proposed Analysis: In the case of patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD), it has been found that Functional Connectivity (FC) is affected producing abnormalities in their functional connectivity networks, which could be explained by the already studied degradation of axons in the corpus callosum that connects the hemispheres of the brain, suggesting that this disease could be studied as an interhemispheric disconnection syndrome. Additionally, different experimental behavioral studies have shown that AD patients perform better in tasks involving intrahemispheric processing than in tasks requiring interhemispheric associations, supporting the interhemispheric disconnection hypothesis. In this project, we explore the hypothesis that AD and other neurodegenerative diseases can be characterized in terms of an interhemispheric disconnection syndrome, where such a failure can be quantified by estimating the drop in functional connectivity versus the distance between connected regions, calculated from the time series of fMRI and other neuroimaging recordings.
