| Proposed Analysis: | I'm researching the use of Self-Organizing Maps and being able to use it as an analytical tool to understand data distributions. A Self-Organizing map has very intriguing qualities in such that it can extract characteristics of the dataset without being told anything about it. For example, in the paper https://arxiv.org/pdf/2112.03425.pdf, it was shown how a SOM pulled out qualities of different galaxies by organizing the dataset in its own method. This organizational feature of the SOM allows it to be powerful in understanding its own way of connecting data points together, and is very useful in alzheimer's disease datasets. There is potential that data points from these alzheimer's disease datasets to be connected in ways that we have yet to discover using the SOM. |
