Proposed Analysis: | Objective: Identifying protective and risk factors associated with dementia in India Proposed Methodology: SANSCOG is an ongoing community-based rural longitudinal study with an estimated sample size of 10,000 subjects, while TLSA is an ongoing parallel study based in urban area with an estimated sample size of 1000 subjects. In both the longitudinal studies we are collecting comprehensive clinical, neurocognitive, neuroimaging, genetic, anthropometric, and blood biochemical data at initial visit and subsequent follow-ups for up to 10 years. 1. As evidence have emerged on ethnicity and dementia-related studies, investigating the dynamics of dementia in the Indian population is of utmost importance. 2. Our study is focused on identifying risk factors and protective factors associated with dementia in the Indian population, which has unique and diverse demographic composition. 3. We aim to compare the population-specific dynamics of risk factors and protective factors in Indian, Western, Hispanic, and European populations. 4. We aim to study the impact of risk factors on the brain and look for evidence in sMRI and fMRI neuroimaging data. As the Indian population consists of diverse ethnicities and races, we could expect some differences than the other populations. |
