Proposed Analysis: | Depression is a modifiable risk factor of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and constitutes a potential target for new therapeutic interventions to prevent the onset or progression of cognitive impairment. Recently, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) amyloid and tau biomarkers for AD have permitted a more robust understanding and earlier detection of AD. We aim to combine the diagnostic power of CSF biomarkers of AD with imaging to understand the foundational interactions between dementia and depression. This will lay the groundwork for research investigating how antidepressants modulate further cognitive decline and research into the inflammatory mechanisms linking depression and dementia. |
